Notice: ME Cloud being discontinued July 1, 2021

on . Posted in News

As a Marketing Engineering for Excel (MEXL) instructor please be aware that DecisionPro is discontinuing the ME Cloud service, effective July 1, 2021. This action may impact you and your future students. Instructors who continue to use MEXL after his date will have limited options available to enrolled students who use Apple Mac or Chromebook computers.

We hope you know of DecisionPro's new Enginius platform. We developed Enginius in response to several issues:

  • The continued evolution of Microsoft's Windows and Office products that requires substantial development investment with minimal added value to the MEXL user experience.
  • The increased presence of Apple Mac and Chromebook users on college campuses for whom ME Cloud was delivering an increasingly inadequate user-experience.
  • The demand from instructors for a customized offering which MEXL, an "all or none" package, could not deliver.

Enginius addresses the above issues and allows us to more easily introduce new models, cases and features in a timely manner. If you are not familiar with Enginius, we encourage you to view this short video https://www.enginius.biz/index.php/quick-tour/.

What now?
Enginius has the teaching materials you enjoyed as an MEXL instructor, as well the ability to customize the software, cases and models you need to support your course. We have recently released the initial version of Interactive Positioning and a more powerful update is in testing now. A replacement to our popular ABB case is also in the pipeline for Enginius; so all cases, models and features available in MEXL are now (or will soon be) available on Enginius. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to begin the transition to Enginius before your next course. Our team is ready to assist you in the transition. What are my other options?
While we will continue to offer MEXL, our support ability is limited. MEXL is not undergoing any further development and we cannot predict when a Windows or Excel update might render the software unusable. While we will continue to make reasonable efforts to support MEXL users, we foresee a time when MEXL will also need to be fully retired.

If you decide to continue to use MEXL after July 1, 2021, you will need to make accommodations for Mac and Chromebook users. Here are some choices to consider:

  • Have Mac and Chromebook students subscribe to an Enginius license (same cost as MEXL) and recognize that the outputs and formats from MEXL and Enginius, though similar, will not be identical.
  • If the college has a computer lab available with Windows machines, we can provision complimentary licenses for that lab for Mac and Chromebook users.
  • Have Mac and Chromebook students partner with a student who has a Windows computer.

As a reminder: Enginius is 100% online and does not require any installation or add-in. All teaching resources and marketing models on the Enginius website are freely available to registered instructors. As an instructor, you are free to use Enginius for demonstration purpose and show-and-tell in your (virtual) classroom, free of charge. You only need to purchase a university license (or have your students purchase licenses themselves) if you assign one of our 30+ case studies to your students.

As always, we look forward to your feedback on models and cases and are here to answer your questions or help in any way. Please reach out to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Transition to Enginius

on . Posted in News

Colleague,

You have been teaching with Marketing Engineering for Excel (MEXL) in past years and we appreciate your usage and support. We want to alert you to some fundamental changes in our product offering portfolio that will affect your future classes.

MEXL has not received an update in software, models or cases in recent years for three reasons:

  1. Continuing, frequent changes introduced by Microsoft in the Windows environment and in its Excel offering, making MEXL support difficult.
  2. The increased presence of Macintosh products on campus, as well as Chromebooks, tablets and other non-Windows devices.
  3. The move toward reliance on Cloud-based solutions for analytics of all sorts, bypassing the need for client-based software.

For the reasons above, in 2018 we made the difficult decision to abandon new MEXL development in favor of moving to an online platform compatible with the technologies above. That platform is Enginius and has been in production for two years.

Enginius offers all of the cases and models contained in MEXL with the exception of ABB customer choice (this case - based in the 70s - has been replaced in Enginius with the Hansen Foundation case, a customer choice case based on direct marketing strategy). Additionally, Enginius includes 3 new models and associated cases. Enginius requires no software installation and can be used on any internet connected computer anywhere. All user work is stored on the user’s account in Enginius, so they (and you) can work from anywhere. Additionally, Enginius offers the following benefits:

  • Business cases and data sets are pre-loaded, so students have all the materials they need in one place.
  • Ability to use only what you need. Instructors can adopt the entire Enginius package or choose only the software and cases they need for their class.
  • A built-in templating system that allows students to easily format their own data to upload for analysis.
  • Output flexibility in the form of reports that can be generated online or output as Excel, Word, or PowerPoint files. Students can easily add their own insights to the documents without having to copy and paste charts and graphs to different documents.

We understand the deep investment you have made to teach effectively with MEXL and the associated reluctance to change; we are working hard to make the transition from MEXL to Enginius as seamless as possible. Our MEXL models, cases and instructor materials have been migrated to Enginius. Recorded videos are available to help you quickly learn and navigate the Enginius environment. And we are ready to assist you as needed.

While we will continue to maintain MEXL as long as feasible, Enginius will be the platform where new models, software and cases will be found...the models and cases needed for students seeking to learn “marketing in the digital age”. Also, please be aware that we will retire ME Cloud (our web-based solution for Mac users to remotely access MEXL) in June 2021. At that time, there will be no MEXL solution for Mac users.

Please take a few minutes to review Enginius via this short video https://www.enginius.biz/index.php/quick-tour/. Further, we would be happy to discuss transition plans with you to facilitate adoption.

Enginius is a completely separate website from DecisionPro and as such, you will need to register as an instructor on the Enginius website at: https://www.enginius.biz/index.php/registration/instructor/. Please mention in the comments that you are a registered MEXL user and we will quickly approve your request. As with MEXL, instructors will get complimentary access to the software and all instructor materials to help with class preparation

We look forward to your feedback on Enginius and learning how we can facilitate your transition to Enginius.
