Marketing Engineering End of Life

on . Posted in News

Marketing Engineering for Excel (MEXL) has reached its end-of-lifecycle stage for both academic and commercial users and all users are encouraged to transition to our new flagship product, Enginius, designed to replace MEXL. MEXL was developed to operate under Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 environments, but not specifically for Windows 10. MEXL continues to run in many but not all instances of Windows 10.

As a web-based offering, Enginius currently offers most of the models and cases available in the academic version of MEXL, plus several new models with associated cases.  Further, as a web offering, Enginius provides the same user experience to Windows, Mac OS and Chromebook users, with no dependency on client-side software.

For users of MEXL who can provide a stable legacy environment, we expect MEXL will continue to run indefinitely.  In newer environments (Windows 10, virtual deployment scenarios, etc.), DecisionPro support will be offered on a courtesy, best-effort basis.

For those commercial users who depend on MEXL for ongoing data analysis, we suggest preserving the legacy environment so that MEXL can continue to be of use.

Notice: ME Cloud being discontinued July 1, 2021

on . Posted in News

As a Marketing Engineering for Excel (MEXL) instructor please be aware that DecisionPro is discontinuing the ME Cloud service, effective July 1, 2021. This action may impact you and your future students. Instructors who continue to use MEXL after his date will have limited options available to enrolled students who use Apple Mac or Chromebook computers.

We hope you know of DecisionPro's new Enginius platform. We developed Enginius in response to several issues:

  • The continued evolution of Microsoft's Windows and Office products that requires substantial development investment with minimal added value to the MEXL user experience.
  • The increased presence of Apple Mac and Chromebook users on college campuses for whom ME Cloud was delivering an increasingly inadequate user-experience.
  • The demand from instructors for a customized offering which MEXL, an "all or none" package, could not deliver.

Enginius addresses the above issues and allows us to more easily introduce new models, cases and features in a timely manner. If you are not familiar with Enginius, we encourage you to view this short video https://www.enginius.biz/index.php/quick-tour/.

What now?
Enginius has the teaching materials you enjoyed as an MEXL instructor, as well the ability to customize the software, cases and models you need to support your course. We have recently released the initial version of Interactive Positioning and a more powerful update is in testing now. A replacement to our popular ABB case is also in the pipeline for Enginius; so all cases, models and features available in MEXL are now (or will soon be) available on Enginius. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to begin the transition to Enginius before your next course. Our team is ready to assist you in the transition. What are my other options?
While we will continue to offer MEXL, our support ability is limited. MEXL is not undergoing any further development and we cannot predict when a Windows or Excel update might render the software unusable. While we will continue to make reasonable efforts to support MEXL users, we foresee a time when MEXL will also need to be fully retired.

If you decide to continue to use MEXL after July 1, 2021, you will need to make accommodations for Mac and Chromebook users. Here are some choices to consider:

  • Have Mac and Chromebook students subscribe to an Enginius license (included with the MEXL subscription) and recognize that the outputs and formats from MEXL and Enginius, though similar, will not be identical.
  • If the college has a computer lab available with Windows machines, licenses can be purchased for the lab for Mac and Chromebook users.
  • Have Mac and Chromebook students partner with a student who has a Windows computer.

As a reminder: Enginius is 100% online and does not require any installation or add-in. All teaching resources and marketing models on the Enginius website are freely available to registered instructors. As an instructor, you are free to use Enginius for demonstration purpose and show-and-tell in your (virtual) classroom, free of charge. You only need to purchase a university license (or have your students purchase licenses themselves) if you assign one of our 30+ case studies to your students.

As always, we look forward to your feedback on models and cases and are here to answer your questions or help in any way. Please reach out to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
